GlobalFit interviewed employees of all ages and identities to learn about how they live our mission of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, both in and out of the office. Here’s what they had to say.
GF: Thanks for volunteering your time today. Can you please introduce yourself and your role at GlobalFit?
F: Frank Mancuso, SVP of Business Development
GF: Hi Frank! What does a “healthy lifestyle” mean to you?
F: A healthy lifestyle means a balance of physical, emotional and social well-being. I try to find time for movement and meditation every day in order to manage basic risk factors.
GF: When did you begin focusing on a healthy lifestyle and why?
F: I was fortunate to adopt to living a healthy lifestyle as a young boy by participating in organized sports teams and leagues, but it was in my late 20s while working for a Wall Street hedge fund where I really learned the importance of work/life balance. I began to practice what I call a purposeful management of my health by carving out time for running, spin, and weight resistance training. I started a regular yoga practice and I became more intentional with my nutrition.
GF: How do you stay physically active?
F: Before COVID-19 changed the world I was motivated by participating in group exercise: Spin, Yoga, Boot Camp, and HIIT classes. Today, I find myself thinking more about movement as opposed to activity. I stay active at home on an elliptical machine and I have just started running again.
GF: How do you practice mindfulness or mental “fitness?”
F: Recently I was introduced to the idea of movement meditation to find a mind/body balance with a purposefulness of being present.
GF: Does your wellness routine include a certain way of eating? If so, can you describe it?
F: I am fortunate to use the tools of our corporate wellness program and I have monthly tele-nutrition meetings with a Charge Registered Dietitian who helped me to redefine a program that is focused on limited items, but making healthy choices.
GF: How do you make time for your wellness routine amidst work, family, and other responsibilities?
F: I think about wellness incrementally... whether that means taking ten minutes for a walk between meetings, daily visits to the local farmers markets to buy healthy ingredients for dinner or plugging into a podcast for 5 mins to shut down the noise. I try to set achievable goals every day and celebrate the little wins.
GF: In regards to your wellness routine, what have you tried before that didn't work for you, and why not?
F: Whether it is activity or nutrition, I have fallen victim to extreme programs. Each time I have attempted fasting or cleansing diets, I have failed. They set me up for unrealistic goals and caused me to feel de-motivated and revert back to bad habits.
GF: What does it take for you to be consistent in your wellness routine?
F: Setting achievable goals and being accountable for set backs!
GF: What are your top tips for someone looking to live a more healthy lifestyle?
F: Set achievable goals. Celebrate small wins. Create a judgement fee zone and don't measure yourself against others. Creating a healthy lifestyle is personal!
GF: Anything else you want to mention?
F: Find true friends and laugh often!
